A Look into the Past - 100 Years Ago Today!

Lots of customers and visitors who come into our Lyle, MN bank branch are struck by the beautiful, hand-painted, antique vault dating from 1915 when the branch operated as Farmer’s State Bank of Lyle, MN.

What people don’t often get to witness are the original vault inspection logs posted inside the vault that are still beautifully preserved from over 100 years ago!

On this date in 1919, the annual vault inspection & certification was performed by a technician from the C. B. Otten Company headquartered in Clearwater, MN. Back then if you needed to call the locksmith for emergency repairs the telephone number was listed as “Clearwater 19”!
Whether you live in Lyle or are just traveling through town, we welcome you to stop by the Bank to see the antique crafted vault doors and say “Hi” to Cheryl and Lisa!

Like many banks in that era, this historic vault utilized Yale locking mechanisms manufactured by The Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company of Stamford, Connecticut which is still in existence today.

Farmers State Bank of Lyle, MN was founded in 1915 and succeeded the First National Bank of Lyle (The original Lyle Bank formed in 1901). Farmers State Bank of Lyle was acquired by Sterling State Bank and officially merged on February 20, 1989.
